Design, Simulation and Optimization of a 3-Stage gas Turbine Cycle using Microsoft Excel

This work entails the design, simulation and optimisation
of a 3-stage Gas Power Plant cycle. Series of practical power plants such as the Rankine cycle, Joule cycle, combined heat and power (CHP) cycle, combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) were reviewed after intensive studies to come up with a realistic model as the 3-stage cycle. Relevant theoretical equations were derived, analysed and simulated using widespread Microsoft Excel. The work also expalins a check on the accuracy of the thermodynamic equations by a ratio of the sum of all the useful work and losses to the heat supplied to approximatel to unity From the results, the exhaust heat energy ws optimised at about 600 degrees to be used by a secondary plant i.e. steam power plant. The optimisation of the plant was achieved at a stage pressure ratio of 4 - 6; giving improvedoptimum cycle and plant efficiencies at about 56% and 53% respectively thus producing a net power and total power (with useful heat output) of 72MW and 96MW respectively. The plant energy utilisation factor, Eu with  aned without the exhaust was determined as 93% and 70% respectively.
